Fortaleza | Jericoacoara
How to get to Fortaleza Fortaleza has a modern airport, which receives flights from different companies and Brazilian and foreign airlines. Airplane Pinto Martins, Fortaleza’s International Airport, is one of the principal means of arrival for those visiting the capital of Ceará. Gol, TAM and Azul, besides KLM, Delta and TAP, have regular flights between Fortaleza and other capitals. The airport is located about 10km from the city center and 12km from the Meireles beach front. Your transfer between the airport and your hotel can be made by bus, taxi or car rental at the terminal itself. Except in specific situations, there is no need to request a transfer between the airport and the hotel, as taxis provide a good service. As soon as you leave the departure lounge, some taxi drivers will probably approach you to offer their services; however, it is more reliable to take a taxr from one of the companies accredited by the airport itself.
How to get to Jericoacoara The logistics to get to Jericoacoara have not always been easy. After all, the village of Jericoacoara is 300km from Fortaleza - Ceará and surrounded by a park full of dunes. With the inauguration of the Regional Airport of Jericoacoara it is now easier to reach the place and reduce travelling time. Important: Since the second half of 2017 a tourist tax has been levied by the Municipality of Jijoca of Jericoacara and visitors to Jericoacoara are charged R$5,00 per day. Payment can be made upon arrival in the village or by Internet. Airplane For those who want to fly to Jericoacoara, there are two options.: Travel to the Regional Airport of Jericoacoara, located in the neighboring city of Cruz, about 30km from Jeri or travel to the International Airport Pinto Martins in Fortaleza, which is 300km from Jeri . Although Jericoacoara airport is convenient and has made it very easy to get to the place, the frequency of flights, consequently, is not yet great therefore prices are not so low. Even with the new airport, many people continue to arrive in Fortaleza Airport and complement the journey overland between Fortaleza and Jericoacoara. This trip can be done in different ways. From Fortaleza to Jericoacoara by 4x4 vehicle One of the most comfortable options for those who are in Fortaleza and want to go to Jericoacoara is to hire 4x4 transport for this route. Most of the trip is made on an asphalt road and after arriving at Praia do Preá tire pressures are reduced in order to cross the sand dunes. This type of route is carried out by different companies and drivers, from Fortaleza or the reverse route, leaving Jeri. It can also be done privately sharing with other tourists, dividing travel costs. Buses from Fortaleza to Jericoacoara Fretcar is the bus company offering a service between Fortleza and Jeri. The whole trip lasts about 7 hours and is not very comfortable. The bus takes its passengers to Jijoca, where they disembark and take the famous “pau de arará” a 4x4 adapted to carry passengers. . It's about 20km in just under an hour. The journey is over the dunes and ups-and-downs are frequent. There are daily bus schedules departing from Fortaleza's bus station or Fortaleza's airport to Jericoacoara. It is advisable to buy your ticket in advance, so you do not run the risk of having trouble with your schedule. The company website www.fretcar.com.br has more information. By car to Jericoacoara From Fortaleza, the best option is to take highway CE-085, also known as Estruturante. Although it is a highway for most of the way, it is advisable to carry a map (or GPS) with you to avoid problems due to a lack of road signs. This will take you to Jijoca de Jericoacoara or to Vila do Preá (you can choose which route to take). From these places, it may be a good idea to hire a guide to indicate the best way forward. The trails to Jeri are sandy and there are no road signs Do not risk going alone, especially at night. Tip: Most visitors arrive in 4x4 cars, but if you have experience and want to risk driving on the sand without additional traction on the wheels you can get there too - What you usually do is to reduce tire pressure a little. In Jeri, unauthorized vehicles are not permitted to circulate on the streets. To overcome the situation, there are parking lots at the entrance to the village, where tourists leave their cars. You will not be allowed to drive through Jericoacoara in your own car, you will need to leave it in the parking lot.
